The Covid-19 global pandemic has raised issues related to responsibility and judgement which effectively means a Captain is the sole arbiter and decision-maker in what are now turbulent and unprecedented times. One of the issues the global pandemic has raised has been that of communication and this has had a dramatic effect on the duties of senior mariners adding further pressures to an already heavy workload. The Captain’s role has always been a lonely one but in dealing with a global pandemic and its related matters, the Captain is now finding even more pressure and administration to deal with.
