Singapore – [16/08/2024] – Last Friday, the GMCG Singapore team proudly participated in the Kayak River Cleanup event, a significant initiative organized by Peninsula and supported by WISTA Singapore, in collaboration with the SSA Young Executives Group (YEG).

As part of this meaningful initiative, our team embarked on a kayak expedition through the Marina Reservoir, engaging in a litter-picking activity that proved both eye-opening and impactful. Despite ending up with sore muscles and sunburns, the experience showed us how important it is to manage waste and take care of our environment.

Over 40 dedicated participants from the maritime industry came together to remove 47 kilograms of trash from the Kallang River area. This effort highlights the extent of the problem and the importance of working together. Seeing the effects of litter on our waters and wildlife clearly shows how essential it is to stay focused on managing waste effectively.

Leslie Mezzich, Managing Director of Singapore at GMCG, reflected on the experience: “This event was a powerful reminder of our responsibility to protect the environment. Our commitment to sustainability extends beyond organized cleanups; it is embedded in our daily practices and corporate values. We are proud to support initiatives that align with our dedication to environmental sustainability and community engagement.”

This experience also reinforces the importance of practicing the 5Rs: Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose, Recycle.
