Why use GMCG?

GMCG acts as an intermediary to provide this service through our exclusive agreement with Radio Lloyd which is a Radio Accounting Authority that acts on behalf of multiple flag administrations and is based in Panama. Radio Lloyd also offers Point of Service Activations (PSA) and LRIT Conformance Testing.

The Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) requires passenger ships and cargo ships over 300 gross tonnage on international voyages to carry specified terrestrial and satellite radio-communications equipment for sending and receiving distress alerts and maritime safety information, as well as for general communications. The GMDSS regulations are contained in Chapter IV of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), 1974.

An accounting authority acts as a billing intermediary between the maritime mobile station and service providers and this role may be undertaken by an Administration; a recognized operating agency (ROA); or any other entity or entities designated for this purpose by the Administration. The accounting authority must be registered with an Administration and subject to a determined periodic review the Administration or its national regulatory body on the financial position and effectiveness of each accounting authority.
